Nintendo launch 3DS circle pad add-on

imageNintendo have unveiled an add-on for their Nintendo 3DS handheld console that will allow gamers to use two circle pads. Revealed at Nintendo’s press conference before the Tokyo Games Show and priced at 1500 yen (£12.30), the add-on will be released in Japan on 12th of December. With the add-on, Nintendo are hoping to provide enhanced usability, with the extra circle pad mirroring the dual-stick layout of many home console controllers

Along with this, Nintendo have announced a glut of new games which will support the extra circle pad. Monster Hunter Tri G, released later this year, will be one of the first games to use the accessory. Other games making use of the new add-on are: Resident Evil: Revelations (set to come out in early 2012), Dynasty Warriors Vs (2012) Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D and Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble. At the conference Capcom also anounced that development for the long awaited Monster Hunter 4 is already underway for 3DS. Previously a handheld exclusive to Sony’s PSP, Monster Hunter is one of Japan’s most popular video game series, and the announcement that Monster Hunter 4 will be coming to 3DS will be a blow to Sony’s upcoming handheld console, PlayStation Vita, which releases later this year in Japan and early 2012 for the rest of the world.

Nintendo also revealed a forthcoming software update for the 3DS will allow it to record 3D movies. Meanwhile, Mario Kart 7 will release for the 3DS in December, including a first person, gyroscope controlled driving mode. And Super Mario 3D Land is set to hit shops in November. The deluge of announcements is an attempt by Nintendo to increase the 3DS’s slow sales, which has already forced the company to introduce a hefty price cut for the console less than six months after release.
